Limachi Sailors is a company that rescues the knowledge of our ancestors in the construction of reed boats. Its founder, Fermín Limachi, works on navigation projects with different international scientific teams. Limachi Sailors is also dedicated to the construction of reed boats of all sizes in addition to having a line of handicrafts.

The legacy of the Limachi family

The Limachi are the Aymara brothers from Lake Titicaca (Suriqui) who, in 1970, won Thor Heyerdahl's boat building contest and sailed different transoceanic routes alongside the most famous expeditioners in the world. Names like KONTIKI, RAII and TIGRIS are written in the legacy of the Limachi. Fermín Limachi is the current shipbuilder and key navigator of the ABORAs expeditions (Abora II, Abora III and Abora IV and Abora V) together with the German explorer Dominique Görlitz. Fermín Limachi, his family and his entire community (Suriqui), are also dedicated to the production of reed crafts; in addition to their traditional activities of agriculture and fishing. They are the most skilled builders of rafts, furniture and all kinds of functional and ornamental handicrafts from Totora, the thousand-year-old reed from Lake Titicaca.
